Ranger AC and Sensor Issues

My 2005 Ford Ranger, gasoline engine, is showing some weird behavior. The error memory has logged a temperature sensor heat exchanger defect. I'm also getting an error message on the speedometer, and the AC won't turn on. Mileage is at 247335 km. Any ideas?

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although the error code was different. The AC wouldn't kick in, and it turned out to be related to a sensor in the cooling system. Was the coolant level checked?

Coolant level seems fine, I checked that first. Are you saying a faulty sensor can stop the AC from working completely?

In my case, yes. The sensor malfunction was preventing the AC compressor from engaging. Considering the stored error and the symptoms, I would strongly recommend having a workshop inspect the air conditioning control unit. It could be defective.

Thanks for the advice. The workshop confirmed your suspicion: defective air conditioning control unit, also the temperature sensor heat exchanger was indeed faulty. Total cost 980€. Replaced both and everything is working as expected.
