Ranger Diesel Won't Start
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Ford Ranger diesel with 69148 km wouldn't start, with the engine appearing completely dead. The issue was suspected to be a serious engine control malfunction. However, it was resolved by checking and cleaning the battery cable connections, which were found to be corroded and loose. After tightening and replacing one cable, the vehicle started successfully, avoiding the need for costly repairs.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely check those connections. Just to be sure, when you had this problem, did the engine not even crank, or did it crank but just not start? I mean, could a loose connection really stop it from doing anything at all?

In my case, the engine wouldn't crank at all. A faulty connection can prevent sufficient power from reaching the starter motor. I strongly recommend you visit your local workshop.

Wow, you were spot on! It was the battery connections all along – corroded and loose as anything. Cleaned them up, tightened them, and she fired right up! Had to replace one of the cables, so cost me 155€ at the end. Thanks so much for your help; you saved me a fortune!

I had a similar issue with my Ranger. Check the cable connections to the battery. Ensure they are clean and tight.
