Ranger Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor Issue

I own a 2021 Ford Ranger with a diesel engine. I am experiencing a malfunction with the exhaust back pressure sensor. The symptoms include a warning light, excessive smoke during acceleration, and the inability to regenerate the DPF. I suspect the sensor itself is defective. Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

Sounds familiar. I have a Ranger too, though I don't recall the exact year. Had a similar thing happen – warning light, smoke like a chimney, and the engine felt like it was choking. Could be the sensor, like you said. Imagine your exhaust system is a highway, and that sensor is like a traffic cop. If the cop is drunk, he gives wrong directions, and everything gets backed up. Is your fuel consumption higher than usual?

Fuel consumption seems normal, but the other symptoms persist. Can you provide more details on how you resolved the issue on your Ranger?

Yeah, mine was the same, fuel was normal. I tried cleaning the sensor, but it didn't really do anything. Bit like wiping mud off your windshield when the whole car's covered. Best bet is to take it to a workshop and get them to check it out. That's what I did, and they replaced the sensor. Problem solved.

Thank you for the information. I will schedule an appointment with a workshop to have the exhaust back pressure sensor replaced. The estimated repair cost is 245€.
