Ranger Injection Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Ford Ranger with a gasoline engine is experiencing higher fuel consumption, reduced engine power, stalling at idle, and smoke during acceleration, suggesting a potential injection system fault. The suspected cause is a defective cable or plug connection. After checking the air filter and MAF sensor, the issue persisted, leading to a workshop visit where a faulty injector connection was identified and repaired.

I've checked the air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor. Maintenance is up to date, all filters were replaced recently. I'm leaning towards a fuel issue. What exactly did you experience with your system?

Just checking the basics first. For me, the rough idle got really bad, and eventually the engine light came on. I tried to fix it myself, but no luck. Just ended up going to a workshop. They replaced a faulty injector connection. If you've checked your air filter and the problem persists, you should take it to a shop.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a shop and you were spot on - turned out to be a defective connection. It cost 95€ to fix it. Appreciate the help!

I had similar issues with my Ranger, though mine's a newer model. Reduced power and rough idling were the main symptoms I noticed. Did you check the air system? How's your maintenance been?
