Ranger Preheating Lamp Issue

Got a 2013 Ford Ranger with a diesel engine, and the preheating lamp won't switch off. Check engine light's also on, and it smokes when I accelerate. Already checked for obvious loose connections, so what gives?

Sounds familiar. Had similar gremlins with my old Audi A4. Ever checked the preheating control unit itself? Could be a faulty cable or plug.

Control unit, eh? Is that a pain to get to? Where exactly is it located in your Audi?

Different car, different layout. Best bet is to get a pro to check it. Likely just a dodgy connector, but better safe than sorry. Probably it will save you time.

Cheers for the input. Turned out to be a defective preheating control unit, just like you thought. New unit and labor came out to 95€. Sorted now.
