RAV4 Fog Sensor Malfunction

I've got a 2002 Toyota RAV4 with an electric engine, and I'm running into a strange issue. The fog sensor seems to be malfunctioning and I'm getting an error stored in the error memory. On top of that, the air conditioning system won't switch on, the spray nozzles are freezing up in cold weather, and the mirror heating isn't working at all. I suspect it might be a defective cable or plug connection, but I'm not entirely sure where to start looking. Any thoughts?

Interesting. The symptoms you're describing are definitely related to the fog sensor and its interaction with other systems. Have you checked the wiring harness and connectors near the sensor itself? A visual inspection might reveal corrosion or loose connections. Also, is the error code specific? Knowing the exact code could help narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick visual inspection of the wiring harness near the sensor, but didn't spot anything obvious like corrosion or loose connections. I need to dig a bit deeper. As for the error code, I'll need to check again, but I was hoping to avoid having to pull everything apart just to read the error code. Is there a way to check the error memory without special tools?

Okay, given the interconnected nature of the symptoms and the fact that you've already done a preliminary visual check, it's likely a deeper issue than just a loose connection. While you might be able to find some generic OBD2 readers that can pull the code, without the right tools it might be difficult to read. Given the electric components involved I would suggest that you go to a workshop to have it checked.

Thanks! I appreciate the insight. I will bring it to the workshop, and I'll be sure to mention the potential cable or plug issue to the mechanic. If it's a simple fix like that, hopefully, it won't cost too much. I saw in a similar case that the repair cost was around 95€, so I am hoping it will be something like that.
