RAV4 Hybrid rough idle and stalling

I'm having some trouble with my 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. It only has 27142 km on the clock. I've noticed a rough engine running, and it occasionally stalls at idle. The check engine light is also on. When accelerating, the car jerks noticeably. I suspect a defective ignition coil, possibly due to a loose cable or plug connection. Anyone else experienced this?

Sounds mighty familiar! I had a similar issue with my RAV4 Hybrid, though I never checked the mileage, I tell you what! Rough idling is no fun, and that jerking feeling is like riding a bucking bronco. Have you checked for any specific error codes related to misfires? That's usually a dead giveaway for coil pack issues.

Yes, I did run a vehicle diagnostics check. It indicated a misfire in one of the cylinders, pointing towards a potential ignition coil problem. Was that the same code you got, and did it definitively solve the issue for you?

Yep, misfire city! That was the culprit. If your diagnostic says the same, chances are it's a bad coil. Given that it could also be just a loose connection, I'd still recommend getting it checked professionally. Could be a quick fix, or you might need a new coil pack. Just don't keep driving it like that or you will cause more damage.

Thanks for the confirmation and advice. I took it to a local workshop, and it turned out to be a defective ignition coil, just as we suspected. The cable connection was indeed faulty. They replaced the coil for 95€. Runs smoothly now.
