RAV4 O2 Sensor Connection Issue

My 2006 Toyota RAV4 with a gasoline engine is throwing codes, and the check engine light is on. Fuel consumption has also gone up quite a bit lately. The car only has 47356 km on it! I suspect it's the O2 sensor since the error memory mentions it, but I'm not sure where to start. Any ideas?

I had something similar happen on my RAV4. Check the cable and plug connection to the oxygen sensor first. That's where my problem was.

Interesting! Where exactly is that located? Is it easy to get to? I'm not super mechanically inclined, but I'm willing to take a look before bringing it in.

It's part of the exhaust system, so follow the exhaust pipe from the engine. Honestly, it might be worth just having a workshop take a look. That's what I ended up doing. Cost me about 95€.

I took your advice and brought it to a shop. You were spot on – it was a defective connection to the O2 sensor! They fixed it for 95€ as well. Huge relief and thanks for the help!
