RAV4 Overheating Issue

My 2004 Toyota RAV4 diesel is overheating, and the check engine light is on. I suspect the radiator fan is defective.

I've had similar issues with my RAV4. Have you checked the speed sensor? A defective speed sensor will cause the radiator fan to malfunction, leading to overheating.

Thanks. Is the speed sensor part of the cooling system, or is it located elsewhere? What happened when your fan wasn't running properly?

The speed sensor is linked to the cooling system's control. My temperature control was erratic before the light came on, followed by overheating. Given the age of our vehicles, I'd suggest a workshop visit.

I appreciate the insight. The speed sensor was indeed the problem. Replacing it cost around 250€. The cooling system is working normally again.
