RAV4 rough running engine

Hi, I have a 2007 Toyota RAV4 diesel with about 79407 km on the clock. Recently, the engine's been running rough, and the check engine light is on. I scanned it and got an error related to 'reset quantity drift compensation'. Anyone experienced this before? Could it be something simple, or am I looking at a bigger problem? What sensors should I check? Is it the mass airflow sensor?

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Toyota RAV4 diesel was experiencing rough engine performance and a check engine light, with a diagnostic error related to 'reset quantity drift compensation.' This issue was identified as potentially linked to the fuel injection system, specifically a faulty injector. The suggested solution was to have the injectors checked at a workshop, which confirmed a defective injector that was replaced, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue on my RAV4 (though mine's a bit newer). Rough running and check engine light, same deal. Did the error code specifically mention the injectors? Because if it's drift compensation, that points towards the fuel injection system. Is your fuel economy also worse than usual? How are the car sensors otherwise, did you check them?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the fuel economy, I should do that. I will check the sensors as well. How did you solve the same problem, what was the cause in the end?

Well, turns out it was a faulty injector. Apparently, they can get dirty or just wear out over time, causing uneven fuel delivery. Does your error log say anything about injection valves failing? Resetting 'quantity drift compensation' is usually just a symptom of the injector not working properly. I'd recommend going to a workshop, so they can check if the injector is defective, and you will know how much you will end up paying.

Thanks a lot for the info! Very helpful. I took it to a workshop, and you were right - a defective injector. Ended up costing me 515€ to replace, but the car runs perfectly now!
