RAV4 transmission slipping

My 2012 Toyota RAV4, gasoline engine, has started showing some weird symptoms at only 55019 km. The check engine light and transmission indicator come on sometimes. Plus, I've noticed the gearbox slipping, rough shifts, and grinding when changing gears. Error codes are showing up. Could this be a bad torque converter lock-up clutch? Is a faulty automatic transmission converter the problem, meaning a painful 2120€ repair?

Hey, I have a RAV4 too. Sounds like you're having a rough time! I had similar symptoms a while back: slipping, weird noises, and the lights. Did you notice anything else, like maybe a slight hesitation when accelerating?

Yeah, I've noticed a slight hesitation when accelerating. What happened in your case? Was the converter the problem for you too?

Yep, converter fault was exactly the issue. I'd strongly suggest getting it checked out by a good shop ASAP. Better safe than sorry when it comes to the automatic gearbox.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It really helped! I took your advice and talked to a mechanic. Turns out it is a defective torque converter lock-up clutch, just like I thought. The repair was as expensive as I feared. But the RAV4 is shifting smoothly again. I appreciate your help.
