RC Engine Overheating

Hey, I drive a 2017 Lexus RC with a gasoline engine, and it's got about 127k km on the clock. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I've noticed the engine seems to be running hotter than usual – almost overheating. Could it be something simple, or am I looking at a bigger issue here?

The symptoms you describe, in conjunction with the check engine light, are cause for concern. Has the vehicle undergone any recent maintenance or repairs? It is important to ascertain whether the overheating is consistent or intermittent. Have you checked the coolant level recently? The active air flap system could be a factor if it is malfunctioning.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the coolant, and it seems fine. The overheating seems to happen mostly when I'm stuck in traffic. You mentioned the active air flap system – is that something I could check myself, or is it best left to the pros?

Given the symptoms and your vehicle's mileage, the active air flap system is a likely culprit, with the electromechanism possibly being defective. While a visual inspection is possible, diagnosing the electromechanism requires specialized tools. I strongly recommend taking it to a qualified workshop to prevent further engine damage.

Thanks a bunch for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – it was the active air flap motor. Cost me around 590€ to get it fixed. At least now I know what to look out for in the future!
