RCZ Engine Control Malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Peugeot RCZ diesel with 294,341 km displayed an engine control malfunction and wouldn't start, raising concerns about a potential ECU failure. However, it was suggested to first check the battery connections, as a similar issue was resolved by tightening and cleaning them. Upon inspection, the battery connections were found to be the problem, and securing them resolved the starting issue, avoiding the need for more costly ECU repairs.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll inspect the battery connections more closely. When you experienced this with your Volvo, were there any other symptoms, or was it solely a starting issue?

Just the starting issue. Turned the key, and nothing. No warning lights, no struggling, just completely dead. The battery connections looked fine at first glance, but after cleaning them and making sure they were properly tight, it fired right up. It's definitely worth checking before you start suspecting ECU issues; those can be a pain, and expensive to resolve. I would recommend visiting a workshop.

I appreciate your assistance. The battery cable connections were indeed the problem. Securing them properly has resolved the starting issue. The repair cost was 155€. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

Hmm, a non-start issue on a diesel RCZ. Did you check the basics? I had a similar problem on my old Volvo, and it turned out to be a faulty connection to the battery. Worth a check before you go down the ECU route. Is the starter motor even turning over?
