Renault Captur preheating lamp and check engine light

Has anyone experienced the preheating lamp in the instrument cluster not switching off and the check engine light illuminating on their 2020 Renault Captur diesel? There's also noticeable smoke from the exhaust when accelerating. Could this be a defective glow control unit, maybe a faulty cable or plug connection? What could the repair cost be?

Hey, sounds familiar! I've got a Captur, and I had some similar weirdness going on a while back. Preheating light acting up, engine light popping on... Did you notice any trouble starting the car, especially when it's cold? Might be worth checking the glow plugs themselves too, just in case. Are you thinking it's the wiring harness to the glow plug controller?

I have not experienced any difficulties starting the vehicle, even in colder conditions. Given that the starting is not affected, would you still suspect the glow plugs themselves, or is it more probable that the issue lies within the control unit or its associated wiring?

Okay, if starting isn't an issue, maybe the glow plugs are alright. Still, that control unit thing is a pain. If it was me, I'd take it to a workshop and have them run diagnostics. Better safe than sorry, you know? They'll pinpoint it quick.

I appreciate the advice. I took the vehicle to a trusted mechanic, and after diagnosis, it was indeed determined that the cable or plug connection of the glow control unit was defective. The repair was completed for 95€.
