Renault Scenic engine stalling

My 2017 Renault Scenic with a gasoline engine is having trouble. At 174199 km, the check engine light comes on and off, and the engine sometimes stalls when idling. I've also noticed less engine power. I think it might be a bad fuel pressure regulator, maybe from an error after I changed the fuel filter. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Renault Scenic is experiencing engine stalling and reduced power, with the check engine light intermittently activating. The issue is suspected to be related to a bad fuel pressure regulator, possibly due to an error after changing the fuel filter. A similar problem in another vehicle was resolved by diagnosing the fuel rail pressure sensor using an OBD2 scanner and multimeter. Ultimately, professional diagnostics confirmed the issue as a faulty fuel pressure regulator, which was fixed for 45€.

That sounds familiar! I had almost the exact same symptoms with my old Opel Astra – engine light, rough idling, and all. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor after I messed around with the fuel lines. Did you check the fuel pressure readings? And did you make sure you properly seated the fuel filter when you replaced it? A slight leak there can cause all sorts of problems with the fuel system.

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me more about how you figured out it was the fuel rail pressure sensor on your Opel Astra? What tests or readings did you do?

Sure. I used an OBD2 scanner to get the error codes, and it pointed to the fuel rail pressure sensor. Then, I used a multimeter to check the sensor's voltage output. The readings were all over the place, not stable at all. I'd suggest taking your car to a workshop with proper diagnostic tools; messing with the fuel system without the right equipment can be risky.

I appreciate the advice. It was the fuel pressure regulator, which cost 45€ to fix. Your suggestion to get professional diagnostics was spot on. Thanks again for your help.
