Ridgeline Overheating Bypass Valve
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Honda Ridgeline owner reported an overheating issue linked to a bypass valve fault. The owner suspected the bypass valve might be a secondary problem and sought advice on potential causes and diagnostic steps. Another Ridgeline owner suggested checking the exhaust system, as they had experienced similar issues. Ultimately, a technician diagnosed the problem as a 'ghost code' with no real issue, and clearing the error memory resolved the overheating concern.

Thanks for the reply. I have noticed a slight drop in fuel efficiency, but the engine hasn't stalled. It does idle rough when warm, though. Can you tell me more about the exhaust system issue you had? Any specific parts or symptoms would help.

Yeah, mine was a pain. I believe it was also a bypass valve malfunction throwing a code. If I were you, I would go to the shop and have them diagnose it, could save you the headache.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a technician, and it turned out to be a 'ghost code' with no actual problem. They cleared the error memory, and it's running fine now. Cost me 0€. Your suggestion helped speed up the diagnosis and avoid unnecessary repairs. Thanks again!

Hey, I have a Ridgeline too. I had similar overheating issues with mine. If I remember correctly, it had something to do with the exhaust system. Any change in fuel efficiency or is the engine stalling?
