Ridgeline vibrating steering wheel

Alright Ridgeline fam, I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2013 Honda Ridgeline (gasoline engine) is fighting me on the road with 229207 km on the clock. The power steering is acting possessed! Getting a vibrating/shaking steering wheel, plus the handling feels all spongy. To top it off, there's an error code staring me down. Feels like I'm wrestling a bear just to make a turn. My gut says it's probably just a dodgy cable or plug connection somewhere in the system, but where do I even start without tearing the whole front end apart? Anyone else battled this demon?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Honda Ridgeline owner is experiencing a vibrating and shaking steering wheel, along with spongy handling and an error code. The suspected cause is a faulty cable or plug connection in the power steering system. Suggestions include checking the high-pressure line for wear or damage and considering wheel alignment. Ultimately, the issue was resolved by repairing a defective plug connection, costing 95€.

Greetings. I understand your frustration. I encountered a similar issue with my 2017 Volvo XC60. The symptoms you describe mirror what I experienced, although on a different vehicle brand. Have you inspected the pressure hose for any signs of wear or damage? It might also be prudent to check your wheel alignment.

Thanks for chiming in! Appreciate the solidarity. When you say pressure hose, are you talking about the high-pressure line going to the rack? I've glanced at it, but didn't see any obvious leaks. And yeah, alignment is on the list, but the spongy feeling seems deeper than just needing a toe adjustment, you know? Was your Volvo electric steering too?

Yes, I am referring to the high-pressure line. My Volvo did not feature electric steering; it was a traditional hydraulic system. Given your continued symptoms and the error code, a visit to a qualified workshop might be the most efficient course of action to properly diagnose the fault.

Roger that. Sounds like a plan. I'll get it to the shop. Turns out my problem was indeed a defective plug connection. Repair bill was only 95€ so I got away pretty lightly I guess. Thanks a million for the input!
