Rifter automatic transmission stuck in park

I'm having a weird issue with my 2023 Peugeot Rifter diesel. It's got about 63967 km on the clock. The automatic transmission seems to be stuck in park. The engine won't start, the check engine light is on, and I've noticed the gearbox slipping a bit lately when it does manage to move. I scanned it and there's an error code stored related to the transmission. From what I've been reading, it sounds like it could be a control unit issue. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I'm worried about the gear linkage, shift lock, or maybe even the park brake. Trying to brace myself for a hefty transmission repair bill...

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my Rifter. Same symptoms – wouldn't start, check engine light. I didn't scan it myself, but it felt like the gearbox was having a hard time deciding what to do. Was it completely dead, or did it occasionally start after a few tries?

Thanks for the reply! It's mostly dead, won't start at all. Maybe once or twice it started after a lot of tries, but then it shifted really roughly, and I was worried about causing more damage. Did yours do the same? Did you ever figure out what exactly went wrong?

Yep, that's exactly how mine was acting. Best bet is to get it to a workshop that knows their way around automatics. If it is the control unit, unfortunately there's not much you can do yourself. I know it sucks, but you'll save yourself a lot of headache in the long run.

Appreciate the advice! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the control unit was indeed defective. Cost me about 1000€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
