RS7 Fuel Injection Issues: High Consumption & Stalling

Thanks for sharing that experience with the RS5. The symptoms sound exactly like what my RS7 is going through right now. The fuel consumption has gotten ridiculous lately. Did the repair fully solve all your engine performance issues? Just wanting to confirm before I commit to what sounds like an expensive fix. Would be great to know roughly what you paid for the complete repair job and if any other maintenance was needed in the months after. My power issues seem to be getting worse by the week, so I should probably get this sorted soon before it causes more problems.

Had the repair done last month and wanted to give an update, the fix was actually much simpler and cheaper than expected. The mechanic found a loose connection in the injection system wiring that was causing all those power and fuel consumption issues. Total cost came to 95 Euro for fixing the faulty cable connection. Since the repair, the engine performance is back to normal with no more stalling or excessive fuel use. The dark smoke issue disappeared completely and power delivery is smooth again. No additional maintenance has been needed since the fix. The air-fuel mixture is now properly regulated, and the engine runs like new. Would definitely recommend getting yours checked soon, as these issues can worsen and potentially cause more expensive damage if left unfixed. The repair was straightforward once they identified the exact connection problem. Much better than having to replace entire components of the fuel injection system.

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to share how this story ended. Finally took my RS7 to a specialized performance shop last week. The diagnostic revealed exactly what was mentioned, faulty injector wiring causing all those engine issues. The repair was surprisingly quick. They found multiple cracked connectors in the fuel injection system that were causing irregular fuel delivery. Total bill came to 320 Euro including parts and labor, which felt reasonable considering all the symptoms it fixed. The engine now runs perfectly, no more excessive fuel consumption or dark smoke under acceleration. Power delivery is smooth again and the idle is stable. Such a relief to have this sorted without needing major repairs. Small note for others who might face similar issues, the mechanic mentioned checking these connections during regular maintenance could prevent similar problems. Definitely worth fixing early before it leads to bigger engine problems. The diesel cars next to mine in the shop had similar injection issues, so it seems this kind of problem is quite common across different engine types. Glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed.

Recently dealt with similar injection issues on an RS5 from 2017 with the petrol engine. The symptoms matched exactly, poor performance, high fuel consumption, stalling at idle, and dark exhaust smoke under load. The problem turned out to be failed fuel injector connectors. These connectors develop micro-cracks over time, leading to inconsistent fuel delivery and poor engine performance. The diagnostic showed the engine was running extremely rich due to faulty injector signals. The repair required replacing all injector wiring harnesses and connectors. This is a complex job since the intake manifold needs removal to access the connectors properly. The fuel rail also needs careful handling during the repair. This issue is considered serious as it can potentially damage catalytic converters if left unaddressed. It also creates a safety risk due to the stalling. The symptoms typically worsen over time until the engine becomes completely unstable. For your RS7, given the similar direct injection system, would strongly recommend having it checked by a specialist familiar with modern high-performance engines. The fuel system in these cars requires specific diagnostic equipment to properly assess injector function.
