RS7 Power Loss and Engine Misfires Need Urgent Fix

My RS7 suddenly lost power and runs really rough. The check engine light came on while driving on the highway. Car jerks badly when trying to accelerate. Seems like its not getting enough fuel. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Car details: 2021 RS7, gas engine, 16419km. Looking for advice before taking it to a mechanic since my last repair experience was not great. Could it be something simple like the mass air flow sensor or oxygen sensor, or am I looking at a bigger issue?

Had similar symptoms on my 2018 RS5. The rough running and power loss turned out to be faulty fuel injectors. This is a common issue affecting the fuel delivery system when one or more injectors fail to spray fuel properly into the combustion chamber. The mass air flow sensor and oxygen sensor were tested first, but diagnostic tests revealed defective injectors were causing incorrect air-fuel ratio. The fuel injectors needed complete replacement as cleaning alone wasnt sufficient. This was a serious repair that required special diagnostic equipment to identify which injectors were malfunctioning. The symptoms match exactly, jerky acceleration, rough idle, and power loss occur because the engine isnt getting proper fuel atomization. The throttle body response becomes inconsistent when injectors arent functioning correctly. Given your RS7s symptoms, strongly recommend getting it checked soon. Failed injectors can cause additional engine damage if left unaddressed. The check engine light combined with performance issues typically indicates fuel system problems that need professional diagnosis. Would not attempt any DIY fixes given the complexity of modern fuel injection systems. Get it to a qualified shop that can properly test the fuel pressure and injector spray patterns.

Interesting diagnosis. I had nearly identical symptoms with my Audi RS7 last winter. The jerking and rough running turned out to be clogged fuel injectors combined with a failing mass air flow sensor throwing off the air-fuel ratio. Got it fixed at a specialized shop where they also found my spark plugs needed replacement since they were damaged from the poor fuel mixture. Did the total repair cost end up being reasonable? And has everything been running smoothly since the fix? Always good to know if any related issues popped up afterward, as these fuel system problems can sometimes cascade if not caught early enough.

After getting the RS5 fixed at the shop, everything has been running perfectly. The main issue was indeed the faulty injection valve causing the engine to run too lean. They replaced the defective injector and recalibrated the fuel system, which cost 515 Euro in total. The mass air flow sensor readings are now spot on, and the engine maintains the correct air-fuel mixture across all RPM ranges. No more jerking or hesitation during acceleration. The catalytic converter was also checked to ensure it hadnt been damaged from the lean condition, but thankfully it was fine. Since the repair three months ago, no related issues have surfaced. The engine runs smoothly and delivers full power as it should. Getting it fixed promptly definitely prevented any cascade of problems that could have developed from running too lean for an extended period. The diagnostic equipment they used pinpointed the exact injector that was malfunctioning, which made the repair straightforward. Regular maintenance and keeping an eye on the oxygen sensor readings should help catch any future fuel system issues early.

Took your advice and visited my local specialist shop yesterday. The diagnosis matched what you experienced, bad fuel injectors causing the rough running. They found two injectors that werent spraying properly and replaced them. Also discovered the mass air flow sensor was partially clogged, affecting the air-fuel mixture readings. Total repair came to 890 Euro including parts and labor. More than I hoped but less than I feared. The check engine light is now off and the car runs perfectly smooth again. No more jerking during acceleration and power delivery is back to normal. The technician showed me the spray pattern from the old injectors, they were definitely not atomizing fuel correctly. Good call on getting it checked quickly. They mentioned waiting longer could have damaged the spark plugs or even the throttle body from the improper mixture. Really appreciate the advice. Would have wasted time trying simpler fixes first if you hadnt shared your similar experience. Nice to have the car running properly again without any lingering issues.
