Thanks for sharing those details about your S3 transmission problems. The symptoms you described match mine exactly, especially the grinding and delayed shifts. I have a quote from a specialized transmission shop but have been hesitating due to the cost. Would you mind sharing what you ended up paying for the mechatronic unit replacement and control module reprogramming? Also curious if you encountered any other car computer or electronic issues since the repair was completed? The transmission control problems have me worried about potential cascade failures in other systems. Just want to get a sense of what to expect long-term after getting it fixed.

Since getting the transmission repair done at the specialist shop, my S3 has been performing flawlessly. The faulty transmission control unit was the root cause, and fixing it resolved all the shifting problems completely. Total cost came to 1000 Euro for the control module replacement and reprogramming work. The gearbox now shifts smoothly with zero delays or grinding. No other car computer issues have emerged in the time since the repair. The transmission control system works perfectly with both automatic mode and paddle shifts. These electronic control units can be tricky to diagnose, but once properly fixed, they tend to stay reliable. My transmission repair has held up well with regular driving. The specialist shop did a thorough job testing all related systems to prevent any cascade failures. For peace of mind, I would definitely recommend moving forward with the repair if your symptoms match what I experienced. The investment in fixing the control module was worth it to restore proper transmission function and reliability.

Thanks everyone for the helpful feedback. Wanted to share how my repair experience turned out. Finally took it to a transmission specialist who properly diagnosed the electronic issues. The automotive ECU scan revealed multiple fault codes in the transmission control unit. They replaced the mechatronic unit and performed a complete gearbox calibration. Total repair cost was 2800 Euro but the transmission now shifts perfectly again. No more grinding or delayed responses with the paddles. The specialist thoroughly tested all electronic systems to ensure no other issues were present. The gearbox issues are completely resolved and it drives like new after 2000km. Definitely worth paying more for a shop that properly understands transmission diagnosis and repair. Much better than continuing to risk further damage to the gearbox. Glad I stopped hesitating and got it fixed. The transmission specialist provided detailed documentation of all the work performed. Really helped restore my confidence in the car.

Had similar electronic issues with my S3 2014. The automatic gearbox symptoms matched exactly, rough shifting, delays with paddle response, and transmission slipping into limp mode. The control module failure diagnosis was confirmed through extensive testing. The transmission repair required replacing the mechatronic unit and updating the gearbox software. This was a serious mechanical and electronic issue that needed specialized equipment and programming. These control unit problems often start with intermittent shifting issues before developing into complete transmission failure. The grinding during gear changes typically indicates mechanical wear accelerated by the faulty electronics. After the repair, the transmission performed like new with smooth shifts and proper paddle response. The fix proved reliable with no recurring gearbox issues over the next 40000km. Would strongly recommend having this addressed at a shop specializing in transmission repair and mechatronic units. Generic diagnostic tools often miss the underlying electronic issues in these sophisticated gearbox systems.
