S40 EGR Valve Symptoms

I'm having issues with my 2012 Volvo S40 diesel engine at 125818 km. I think the EGR valve might be faulty. I've got reduced engine power, a check engine light, smoke on acceleration, rough running, high fuel consumption, jerking, and a loud hissing noise when I accelerate. Any ideas?

I had almost the exact same problems with my S40! Does it also feel like it's struggling to breathe, especially uphill? I'm no expert, but could you have a vacuum leak somewhere? That loud hissing sounds suspicious. I had rough idle too.

Yep, sounds like what I went through. I tried cleaning the EGR valve myself but it was a waste of time. Get it checked by a workshop, they'll know what to do. Save yourself the headache. Mine was a blocked EGR valve.
