S40 Exhaust Flap Issue

Hi, I have a 2007 Volvo S40 with a gasoline engine. I'm experiencing some exhaust issues. Specifically, the exhaust flaps don't seem to be working. I get an error stored, the exhaust noise is louder than usual, and the engine runs noisy after a cold start. Any ideas?

Interesting. I have an S40 too, and I had similar symptoms a while back. Loud exhaust, especially on startup. Have you checked for any exhaust blockages or considered the flap actuator itself? Is the engine performance suffering at all?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked for blockages specifically. I'm leaning towards a defective exhaust flap. How did you resolve your issue? Was it the flap actuator?

Turns out, the exhaust flap was indeed defective. Given your symptoms, and especially the error code, I'd strongly suspect the same. I'd recommend getting it checked out at a workshop. Replacing it solved the problem for me.
