S60 diesel exhaust back pressure sensor fault

I'm having a frustrating issue with my 2010 Volvo S60 diesel, only done 35699 km. I've got a warning light and it's belching out smoke when I accelerate. I'm pretty sure it's not doing its DPF regeneration thing anymore. A code reader points towards a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Does this sound right? Anyone else had this?

Sounds familiar. I've got an S60 too, and I had similar symptoms a while back: smoke on acceleration and the DPF refusing to regenerate. It's like when you try to run with a blocked nose – everything just gets congested. Did the code reader specifically mention the exhaust back pressure sensor, or was it a more general emissions fault?

The code reader was pretty specific, saying 'exhaust back pressure sensor defective'. I'm hoping it's just a faulty sensor and not something more serious with the DPF itself. Did yours throw the same specific code, and what was the fix?

Yep, same code here. I tried clearing it, but it came straight back. In the end, I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was the sensor and replaced it, costing around 245€. Honestly, unless you're super confident with car electrics, I'd suggest getting it checked out professionally. It's a pain, but at least you'll know it's done right.

Thanks for the advice! Sounds like I'm heading down the same road as you did. I'll book it into a workshop and get the sensor replaced. Hopefully, that'll sort it. Really appreciate you sharing your experience!
