S60 Diesel Intermittent Starting and Cruise Control Problems

I'm having issues with my 2004 Volvo S60 diesel. I'm getting an error, the gear selection display isn't working, cruise control is inoperative, and it sometimes won't start. Diagnostics suggest it could be the clutch pedal switch cable or plug. Has anyone seen this before?

Whoa, that's a funky mix of problems! Sounds vaguely familiar, though. I had something similar happen on my old Vauxhall Astra a few years back. Cruise control went kaput, and sometimes it just wouldn't start. Drove me nuts! Never saw anything on the dash though. Did you check the switch itself? I only ask 'cause mine was just a loose connection. Wiggle the wires around a bit and see if anything changes? It's a long shot, but worth a try before you start throwing money at it!

Thanks for the reply. Where was the faulty connection on the Astra? Was it at the switch, or further along the wiring? Did your diagnostic system point to the clutch pedal switch, or was it a process of elimination?

Okay, so on the Astra, it was right at the switch itself the connector was a bit loose and corroded. I never had a proper diagnostic like you did, I just poked around until something worked. Honestly, with all those fancy error codes you're getting, and the fact that it's pointing to the clutch switch, I reckon you're probably on the right track. But those electrical gremlins can be sneaky. If wiggling the wires doesn't do the trick, maybe bite the bullet and get a proper workshop to take a look. Could save you a lot of headaches in the long run!

Thanks for the advice. I checked the switch and wiring more closely. I found a slightly loose connection, cleaned the contacts, and secured it. Now everything is working! The error code cleared, the gear selection display is functional, cruise control works, and the engine starts fine. I avoided a 95€ repair for the safety switch, for now. Thanks again!
