Thanks for the info. How would I check the speed sensor?

Checking the speed sensor on your S60 can be tricky without proper tools. Since you suspect the radiator fan and are experiencing overheating, and the check engine light is on, I'd recommend taking it to a qualified workshop. They can accurately diagnose the issue – likely the speed sensor – and prevent further damage. It's far better to be safe than sorry, especially with the hybrid system involved.

Thanks for your advice. The workshop confirmed the speed sensor was defective and replaced it. The total repair cost was 250€. The overheating issue is now resolved.

Overheating and a check engine light on a hybrid S60 definitely warrants investigation! The radiator fan is crucial, especially with the hybrid system generating extra heat. I recall my old '08 V70 giving me similar grief; turned out to be a faulty thermal switch. Have you checked if the fan blade spins freely? Also, consider the speed sensor, as a defective sensor could prevent the fan from activating even when the engine's hot.
