S60 Service Required Message

I've got a 2012 Volvo S60 with a gasoline engine and about 42823 km on the clock. I'm getting a sporadic "Service Required" message. Sometimes it's driving mode errors or just randomly lit error lamps. Other times, systems like the audio or navigation just die temporarily. It's like the control units are shutting down. I've scanned it with an OBD-II reader and there are errors stored, but nothing consistent. Anyone seen anything similar?

Whoa, that sounds super frustrating! So, when you say 'control units shutting down', does that mean the whole infotainment system goes black? Or just glitches out? I'm just a beginner when it comes to cars but that sounds like a wiring problem. Did all this start happening at once?

Yeah, sometimes the whole infotainment screen goes black, other times just the audio cuts out or the GPS freezes. It's not all at once, it's sporadic. A wiring problem makes sense. Any idea which wires I should be checking first? Or what a 'control unit' exactly is?

Okay, intermittent blackouts and freezes are a major clue. A control unit? Uh, that's like a mini-computer that runs a specific system in your car – like your audio, navigation, or even engine management. Seriously, I think there might be a defective cable connection to the BUS system causing the issue. Honestly, though, chasing wiring gremlins can be a real pain. If you're not super confident with electrical stuff, I'd seriously consider taking it to a workshop. Seems like it could be a big job, but better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the advice! I appreciate the explanation. I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – they found a defective cable connection to the BUS system. Repair cost me 155€, which isn't too bad. Everything's working perfectly now.
