S80 Diesel Engine Stalling

My 2003 Volvo S80 diesel has a check engine light, stalls at idle, and reduced engine power. Mileage is 208999 km. I suspect the fuel volume regulator is defective, possibly due to a high pressure pump issue. Any insights?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my S80. Check engine light, stalling... the whole shebang. Have you checked the fuel pressure readings? What codes are you pulling?

I have not checked the fuel pressure readings. I am getting a code indicating a fuel volume regulator issue. Would that align with your experience?

Yep, that code points right to it. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd bet money on it being the regulator or the pump itself. Bit beyond my DIY skills, so I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop to confirm. Could save you a headache down the road.

Thank you for the advice. The workshop confirmed the high pressure pump was defective and causing the fuel volume regulator to malfunction. Repair cost was 1510€.
