S80 Knock Sensor Connection Issue

I've got a 2000 Volvo S80 with a gasoline engine that's throwing codes. The check engine light is on, and I'm getting worse fuel economy than usual. Plus, at idle, the engine seems to hunt a bit. Mileage is at 60914 km. From what I've read, it points to a knock sensor issue. I've checked the sensor itself, but could it be a dodgy wire or connection causing all this?

I had similar issues with my S80 – rough idle, check engine light, the works. It very well could be a bad connection to the knock sensor. Are you sure it is the sensor itself and not something else? Have you checked the wiring harness leading to it?

I visually inspected the harness and the plug looks okay-ish, but these things can be tricky. Was your issue definitely the connection then, or something more involved? Want to be prepared for the worst...

Turns out it was just a faulty connection and I visited a car repair shop to have it fixed. If you’re not comfortable doing it yourself, I’d advise taking it to a reliable workshop. Cost me around 95€. Better safe than sorry!

Thanks for the info! I appreciate the confirmation. It ended up being a corroded connector, exactly as you suspected. Quick fix at the shop and we are done :)
