S80 parking aid malfunction

Good day. I'm experiencing issues with the parking aid on my 2000 Volvo S80 diesel. It's completely without function, and the error memory shows a stored error. Is this common?

Summary of the thread

The parking aid on a 2000 Volvo S80 diesel is malfunctioning, with a stored error in the error memory. This issue is not uncommon in older models. Potential causes include faulty wiring or connections, possibly due to corrosion or damage. It is recommended to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the issue to avoid further complications.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey there! Sorry to hear about your parking aid troubles. A malfunctioning parking assist on an older S80 isn't unheard of. Since you've already checked the error memory, that's a good start. Have you had a chance to inspect the wiring and connections to the parking sensors themselves? Often, corrosion or damage to these connections can cause intermittent or complete failure. If you know where the control module for the parking assist is located, check the connections there as well. Also, have you noticed this happening only in certain weather conditions?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the wiring or connections yet, honestly not sure where to start looking exactly. Would you have any pointers for a complete novice?

Okay, I understand. If you're not comfortable poking around the electrical system, and especially if you don't know where to start, I'd strongly advise against it! You could unintentionally cause more problems. Given the age of your S80 and the symptoms you describe, the 'cable or plug connection defective' diagnosis sounds plausible. Honestly, for something like this, it might be best to take it to a reputable workshop. They can properly diagnose the faulty wiring and repair or replace the sensors as needed.

Okay, I appreciate your insight. I think taking it to a workshop is indeed the most sensible course of action here. Thanks for your advice!
