S80 Rear AC Issue

Hi, I have a 2007 Volvo S80 diesel with only 48934 km on the clock. Recently, the air conditioning has stopped cooling properly, especially for rear passengers. I've had it scanned, and it's showing an error related to the rear ventilation flap, causing a malfunction of the climate control unit. Could this be a simple fix, or am I looking at something major? I've read the likely cause is a defective cable or plug connection.

Hello! I had a similar issue with my Volvo S80, although it was a petrol version. My rear passengers were roasting while I was perfectly comfortable. It turned out to be a problem with the air distribution, not the cooling system itself. Think of it like a water tap that is blocked. In my case it was also the rear ventilation flap and I had similar symptoms. Is the automatic climate control working as expected for the front seats?

Thanks for the reply! Yes, the automatic climate control seems to be working fine for the front seats. It's just the rear that's not getting any cool air. Is there anything specific I should check before taking it to a workshop? Any common points of failure with that rear ventilation flap?

Okay, that sounds very similar to what I experienced. Unfortunately, I'm not technically savvy enough to guide you through a DIY fix. From what I remember, accessing the flap and checking the connections properly required some dismantling. Given the error code and the symptoms, it's very likely a defective cable or plug connection as you mentioned. I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop. They should be able to diagnose and repair it efficiently. If it is just the connection it should be quick. For comparison: my bill was 95€

Thanks for confirming! I appreciate the advice. I'll book it in at a local garage and mention the possible cable/plug issue. Hopefully, it will be a simple fix. I'll post a resolution once it's done.
