S90 Camshaft Sensor Issue

Experiencing issues with my 2018 Volvo S90 hybrid. The vehicle starts poorly, and the engine power is noticeably reduced. An error is also stored. I suspect a defective camshaft sensor. Could this be the cause, or should I investigate further?

I had a similar issue with my S90 a while back. Same symptoms: rough start, felt like it was misfiring, and the check engine light was on. Did you check the sensor's cable and plug connection? That was the culprit in my case. A faulty connection can cause all sorts of weird engine behavior.

Thank you for your reply. I have not yet thoroughly inspected the cable and plug connection. Could a defective connection alone really cause such significant performance issues? Also, what error code did you encounter?

Yes, a bad connection can absolutely cause those problems. The error code I saw pointed to the camshaft sensor as well, which led me down the wrong path initially. Before replacing the sensor, I'd advise checking those connections very carefully for corrosion or damage. If the issue persists after that, a visit to a workshop might be necessary. In my case the bill was 95€, which I found reasonable.

I appreciate the advice. After checking the cable and plug connection, I found a loose wire. Repairing it resolved the issue. The car is running smoothly again. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
