S90 Oil Pressure Warning and Engine Noise

My 2016 Volvo S90 hybrid just hit 54736 km. The oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and there's this awful, loud mechanical noise coming from the engine. I religiously get the oil changed, and I've checked the engine oil level – it's fine. Could this be a total disaster?

Sounds rough. I had a similar issue with my S90 a while back. Same symptoms – the oil pressure light and nasty engine noises. Have you checked the oil pressure gauge itself, if you have one? Mine was fluctuating like crazy before it all went south. Do you know if yours is showing something similar?

An oil pressure gauge, you say? Where would I even find that? And what do you mean by 'went south'? I'm really worried now, because if that fluctuation is really a sign of some big damage, I don't think I can fix it myself. I have no idea about these things.

Yeah, some models have a gauge, some don't, depending on trim. By 'went south' I mean it ended up being an oil pump failure, which starved the engine of oil and started damaging the engine bearings. If you're hearing loud noises, honestly, I'd get it to a workshop ASAP. Better safe than sorry.

Thank you so much for the quick advice! I booked it in with my local garage, and you were spot on – it's a defect in the oil pump. They are quoting me 755€ for the whole job! Ouch! But at least I know what's going on, and the loud mechanical noises should disappear after that. Thanks again!
