Safrane Active Hood Fault

Hello, I have a 2000 Renault Safrane with a diesel engine. I'm getting an "Active hood fault" message on the on-board computer, and the airbag warning light is on. The error is stored, and the spring actuators seem to be triggering. Any ideas?

I had something similar with my Safrane. Is it like a fire alarm going off for no reason? It sounds like the acceleration sensor might be defective. That controls the active hood for pedestrian safety in a crash. It could also affect the airbag system.

Acceleration sensor... Interesting. Where exactly is that located, and is it difficult to replace?

It's part of the active hood system, so it's usually near the front. Considering it ties into the airbags, I strongly suggest you have a workshop take a look. Airbag systems are tricky, and you don't want to accidentally deploy one. The eventual repair cost could be in the region of 315€.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right, it was the acceleration sensor. All sorted now.
