Safrane Generator Issues

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 1999 Renault Safrane 2.2 diesel. It has 124318 km on the clock. I suspect the generator is faulty. Symptoms include reduced engine power, a warning light on the speedometer, poor starting, and weak/flickering lights. Also, an error is stored in the error memory. Could a defective generator cause all this?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Safrane. Have you checked the serpentine belt? That can sometimes cause issues with the alternator and lead to similar symptoms. Does the engine misfire?

Thanks for the suggestion. I have checked the belt, and it seems fine. I don't notice any engine misfire. Could it still be something other than the generator itself? Could it be the starter motor?

In my case, the serpentine belt was ok too. Ultimately, it was the alternator itself that was faulty. Given your symptoms and the error code, it's likely an alternator issue. I'd recommend getting it properly diagnosed at a workshop.
