Safrane Ignition Problems

Fuses I checked, all seem fine. Coil I haven’t looked at, is that a job for a shop or can it be done easily?

If the fuses are good, and especially with those symptoms on a '99 Safrane, I'd strongly suspect the ignition switch itself before the coil. The coil usually manifests in more consistent misfires. Ignition switches on that era Renault are known to be problematic. You could try to diagnose it yourself, but honestly, for peace of mind and safety, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop, especially if you're not familiar with electrical diagnostics.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the shop and you were spot on. The ignition switch was faulty. 52€ later and she's running smoothly again!

Rough running, cutting out, and no starts? Sounds like classic ignition switch trouble. Have you checked for any blown fuses related to the ignition system? Also, has the ignition coil ever been replaced? At 221286 km, it might be time.
