Safrane Radar Sensor Error

Speedometer displays radar sensor error on my 1999 Renault Safrane with a gasoline engine. Error memory confirms the radar sensor malfunction, causing other systems to fail and the warning light in the speedometer keeps flashing. Could this be dirty sensors or a more severe electronic issue? Has anyone else encountered something similar?

I had a similar radar sensor issue with my Safrane not too long ago, it manifested in rather odd ways. Did you check the area around the sensor itself for physical obstructions? Sometimes accumulated road grime or a small impact can disrupt the radar's functionality. Also, have you noticed if the issue is more prevalent during specific weather conditions?

Thanks! I'm going to inspect the radar area you mentioned. Do you recall if the warning light on your speedometer was also triggered constantly, and whether the issue was intermittent, or triggered by environmental factors like weather?

Yes, the warning light was on constantly, and other systems were failing. I cleaned the sensor, but the error persisted, so I visited a workshop. They informed me that the calibration was off, and they corrected that. I would consider doing the same, to properly check your radar's functional parameters.

Thanks so much for sharing your experiences and suggesting the workshop option. Good to know I'm not the only one experiencing this, and now I have a direction to look into! The sensor was dirty as expected. I brought it to the shop, and they cleaned and recalibrated it for 45€. I'm happy again!
