SantaFe alarm battery issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Hyundai SantaFe owner experienced an error with the alarm system, suspected to be due to a discharged auxiliary battery. The issue was confirmed by diagnostics, and it was suggested that a weak main battery could also contribute to such problems. The solution involved testing both batteries, leading to the discovery that the auxiliary battery was defective, which was then replaced to resolve the malfunction.

Yes, I mean the backup battery for the alarm system. I haven't done a load test on the main battery, but starting is normal. Could a slightly weakened main battery cause alarm issues, even with a dedicated backup?

Yeah, definitely possible. Modern car electronics are super sensitive to voltage drops. Even if it starts fine, a slightly weak battery can cause electrical gremlins. The SantaFe might prioritize power to essential systems, like the alarm. I'd suggest getting both batteries properly tested at a workshop.

The workshop confirmed the auxiliary battery was defective and caused the malfunction. The repair cost was 330€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Interesting problem. When you say 'additional battery alarm system', do you mean the backup battery for the alarm? If that's dead, it can throw weird codes. Did you check the voltage on the main car battery? A weak main battery can cause false alarms, especially in modern cars.
