SantaFe transmission issues

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2022 Hyundai SantaFe (gasoline engine) at 69578 km. The engine warning light is on, and the error memory indicates a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox occasionally goes into emergency mode, slips, shifts uncleanly, and sometimes makes grinding noises when shifting. I suspect the gearbox oil level might be too low. Has anyone else encountered this?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Hyundai SantaFe owner reported transmission issues, including an engine warning light, emergency mode activation, slipping, unclean shifts, and grinding noises. The error memory indicated a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. A possible cause suggested was a low transmission oil level, which could affect the sensor's accuracy. The recommended solution was to check the oil level and sensor at a workshop, leading to the discovery and replacement of a faulty sensor.

I've seen something similar on my SantaFe. I didn't have the grinding noises, but the slipping and emergency mode sounds familiar. Have you checked the transmission oil level? That was the culprit in my case.

Thanks for the quick response. I haven't checked the transmission oil level myself yet, as I don't have the tools. But could the oil level cause the temperature sensor to report a fault? It seems strange that a low oil level would directly trigger the sensor.

Yes, a low oil level can definitely affect the temperature sensor reading. The sensor needs to be immersed in the oil to get an accurate reading. If the level is low, the sensor might be exposed or not properly cooled, causing it to report incorrect data and trigger the fault. I would recommend taking it to a workshop to have them check the oil level and the sensor itself. It is likely a faulty sensor, but it is better to be safe.

Appreciate the insight. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the oil level and the sensor. Turns out the temperature sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The total repair cost was 365€. Thanks again for the help!
