SantaFe water sensor malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Hyundai SantaFe diesel owner experienced a check engine light issue, diagnosed as a water sensor malfunction, with the engine running roughly. The initial suspicion was a faulty cable or plug connection. Another person with a similar issue suggested checking the moisture sensor plug and wiring, as these can be sensitive. The problem was confirmed to be a corroded connector in the sensor wiring, which was resolved by replacing the connector, restoring the vehicle's performance.

Yeah, the error is stored in the memory. So, when you had the issue, was it definitely the wiring, or could it have been the sensor itself? And how did you pinpoint the problem?

For me, it turned out to be the wiring, but honestly, I couldn't figure it out myself. Took it to a workshop, and they found a corroded connector. If you aren't sure, just go to a workshop and get the problem sorted out correctly.

I appreciate the advice. A mechanic took a look, and you were spot on – corroded connector on the sensor wiring. New connector and a bit of labor, and the bill came to 95€. Runs like a champ again!

I had a similar headache with my SantaFe! Check that moisture sensor plug and wiring like you said. I've heard those can be real sensitive. Is the error stored in the error memory? If so, it's probably the sensor or the wiring to it.
