Refrigerant level? How exactly would I check that? Is that something I can do myself, or is it best left to a professional? I'm not very mechanically minded, if I'm honest.

Checking the refrigerant level yourself can be risky without the proper equipment and knowledge. Given your description, it's likely the air conditioning control unit is defective, leading to compressor failure. A workshop can perform a comprehensive system check. A repair might cost around 980€.

Right, I understand. Thanks for the advice, I'll book it in with a local garage and get them to have a proper look. Hopefully, it won't cost as much as you said, but at least I have some idea of what to expect now!

It sounds like you are experiencing a refrigerant compressor failure. The symptoms you describe (error code, lack of cooling, system not engaging, warning light) are consistent with this issue. However, without a proper diagnostic check, it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. Have you checked the refrigerant level?
