Scenic crankcase ventilation issue

I've got a 2005 Renault Scenic with a gasoline engine that's giving me some grief. It's done 103221 km. The check engine light popped on recently, and I've noticed a definite drop in engine power. Also, when I accelerate, especially from a standstill, there's a noticeable puff of smoke. I'm suspecting it might be the crankcase ventilation valve acting up. Anyone else experienced similar issues?

Sounds familiar! I've got a Scenic too, though can't remember the exact year right now. I had almost the exact same symptoms a while back – check engine light, sluggish acceleration, and a bit of smoke. Turned out to be a faulty crankcase ventilation valve. Did you notice any rough idling as well?

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, actually, the idle has been a little rougher than usual lately, now that you mention it. How did you pinpoint the crankcase ventilation valve as the culprit? Was it a simple fix, or did you need special tools?

Well, the rough idle combined with the other symptoms pretty much pointed towards the crankcase ventilation. I initially tried cleaning it, but the problem came back pretty quickly. In the end, I had to bite the bullet and get it replaced at a workshop. Cost me around 360€. If you're not too mechanically inclined, I'd recommend getting it checked out professionally to confirm. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the info! Sounds like I'm heading to the workshop then. Knowing it's likely the crankcase ventilation valve and roughly what it'll cost is a big help. Appreciate your insights!
