Scenic heavy steering and vibration

I've got a 2000 Renault Scenic with a gasoline engine that's starting to give me headaches. Lately, I've noticed the steering getting heavier, almost like the power steering is cutting out intermittently. Also, the steering wheel vibrates quite a bit, especially at lower speeds. I think it's the steering angle sensor playing up, coding maybe faulty. Anyone else experienced this?

I had something similar with my Scenic. The steering was all over the place. Did you check the wheel alignment? That could be a factor, especially if the electronic stability system is getting wonky readings from the steering sensor.

Wheel alignment, huh? I hadn't thought about that. Was your shaking as bad as mine? How did you end up figuring out that was the cause?

Yeah, the shaking was pretty bad, especially when turning. Honestly, I didn't figure it out myself. I took it to a workshop and they told me the steering angle sensor needed looking at and that I had alignment problems. Saved me a lot of grief in the long run.

Sounds like I might be heading to a workshop myself then. Thanks for sharing your experience; it's good to have a direction. It ended up being the coding of the steering angle sensor, 195€ to get it sorted!
