Scenic Transmission Issues

My 2010 Renault Scenic diesel is playing up big time. The transmission is messed up. At 70191 km. I can't shift with the paddle shifters, the gearbox slips, and makes horrible grinding noises when it actually bothers to shift. The paddles are unresponsive, and the gearbox is stuck in emergency mode. Error memory is full of codes. Mechanic reckons it's the transmission control unit. Anyone else had this? He’s quoting me 1000€! Rip off, or is that just the price?

Sounds familiar. I had similar shenanigans with my Renault Scenic. Not sure about the year. Is it showing any fault codes? When my transmission control unit went belly up, it felt like driving a car through treacle. It could be a dud ECU. Have you checked the wiring harness for any obvious damage?

Wiring harness looks okay, but I haven't gone super deep. What exactly was up with yours? Did you replace the whole unit?

Yeah, pretty much the same symptoms. Eventually, I had to bite the bullet and get the whole transmission control unit replaced. Best to get it checked out by someone who knows their stuff, or you’ll be chasing ghosts forever. It's not worth messing around with. Take it to a reliable shop.
