Thanks for the detailed explanation of the throttle body replacement. Your symptoms matched mine exactly, poor engine idling and weak response when pressing the gas pedal. Currently gathering quotes but wanted to check, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? Also curious if any other issues came up with the air intake system since getting it fixed? The throttle sensor problems seem very similar to what I am experiencing. Good to hear the dealer route worked well for you despite the usual markup. I might have to go that way too since my local shops seem hesitant about working on VW electronics.

Just had this repaired last week actually, total cost was 265€ for fixing the faulty accelerator pedal module electronics. The throttle valve issue was causing the poor engine idling and weak throttle response, but since the repair everything is running perfectly. No other air intake issues have come up in the 1000km since getting it fixed. The engine runs smoothly now without going into limp mode like it was doing before. Fuel efficiency is back to normal too. Going to the dealer was definitely the right call for this repair. Their diagnostic equipment picked up the exact fault codes and they had the proper tools to recalibrate the system. Independent shops often struggle with VW electronics, especially when it comes to throttle body and sensor calibration. The original symptoms, sluggish acceleration and check engine light, completely disappeared after the fix. Would highly recommend getting it done soon to prevent any cascade issues with the engine management system.

Thanks for the advice. I bit the bullet and took it to the dealer after getting a few quotes. Glad I did, they found the throttle body was actually failing and the air flow sensor needed replacing too. The total repair came to 890€ but at least they had the right diagnostic equipment to properly fix it. They showed me the carbon buildup they cleaned out which was pretty shocking. The car runs like new now, no more check engine light or sluggish response when accelerating. One thing I learned is not to wait too long once these symptoms show up. The service advisor mentioned waiting could have led to more expensive repairs down the line. Been about 2 weeks since the fix and everything is still running perfectly. Fuel economy is much better too. While the dealer cost more than the independent shops quoted, their ability to properly diagnose and fix VW electronics made it worth it. No more limp mode episodes or acceleration problems.

Had the same throttle body issue with my 2011 VW Golf TDI. The symptoms matched exactly, poor fuel efficiency, sluggish response delay when pressing the accelerator, and check engine light. The root cause was a combination of carbon buildup restricting air flow and faulty electronic sensors in the throttle body assembly. This affected the entire fuel management system. Independent shop cleaned the throttle body first, but the problems persisted. Finally needed a complete throttle body replacement along with recalibration of the electronic control module to restore proper function. This is a serious repair that requires specialized diagnostic equipment for proper electronic integration. The dealer has the correct tools and software updates for VW systems. Given the complexity of modern diesel engine management, would recommend the dealer for this specific repair despite potentially higher costs. The fix completely restored normal acceleration response and fuel efficiency. The check engine light has not returned in 60000km of driving since the repair. Key point: With diesel engines, a faulty throttle body can cause major drivability issues and should be addressed promptly to prevent additional system damage.
