Scirocco Power Windows Dead: Regulator vs Motor Issue

Hi everyone, my power windows stopped working completely in my 2008 Scirocco (48k km, gas engine). The car threw an error code and I suspect its the window regulator. After a bad experience with my previous mechanic, Im hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with this issue? Looking for recommendations on whether this is likely just the window motor or something more serious, and what kind of repair costs I should expect. Thanks for any insights.

Had a similar issue with my 2011 VW Golf GTI. When the power windows stopped working, the initial diagnosis pointed to the window regulator, but it turned out to be the window control module. The automotive repair involved removing the door panel to access the window motor assembly. The technician found that moisture had damaged the control module connections, causing the system failure. The repair required replacing both the window motor and the control module since they were integrated as one unit. Its generally a straightforward repair for experienced technicians but requires proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact issue. Could be several components: Window regulator mechanism, Window motor, Control module, Wiring harness issues The most common failure point is the window regulator assembly. A complete diagnostic scan is essential before replacing parts, as window system failures can stem from various sources. In your Scirocco case, given the age and mileage, its likely a similar issue to what I experienced. Not a major mechanical concern, but needs proper attention to prevent further electrical issues in the door components.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I have the same problem right now with my Scirocco and taking it to the mechanic tomorrow. The window regulator got completely stuck halfway and the window motor seems unresponsive. Do you remember roughly how much you paid for the repair? Also wondering if youve had any issues with the window track or other electrical problems since getting it fixed?

After getting my Golf GTI fixed, I can report no further problems with the car window system. The window regulator repair was straightforward, and the power window switch replacement cost me 200€ total, including labor. The window track has worked smoothly since the fix, with no electrical issues whatsoever. Its worth mentioning that once the automotive repair was completed, the technician ran a full diagnostic to ensure the window motor and all related components were functioning correctly. Getting it fixed by a qualified mechanic was definitely the right call, as they properly identified the faulty window regulator as the core issue. One tip: make sure they check the door wiring while they have the panel off. Its a good opportunity to prevent future electrical problems since theyll already be working in that area.

I took my Scirocco to a certified mechanic this morning and Im relieved to report it was a straightforward fix. The window regulator motor had indeed failed, just as suspected. The repair took about 2 hours and cost 280€ including parts and labor. They showed me the old unit and explained how the window track had worn down, causing extra strain on the motor. The automotive repair process involved removing the door panel and replacing the entire window regulator assembly. While checking the system, they found no other electrical issues, which was a relief. The window control now works perfectly, smooth operation and no error codes. Much better experience than my last mechanic. They did a thorough job and even tested all other windows to ensure there were no developing issues. Money well spent and no more worries about stuck windows.
