Scudo camshaft sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Fiat Scudo diesel with 217,393 km is experiencing starting difficulties, stalling at idle, and a persistent check engine light. A diagnostic check indicates a defective camshaft sensor, and there is suspicion that the encoder wheel on the camshaft might also be faulty. The suggested solution is to confirm the sensor issue through a workshop, as similar cases have been resolved by replacing the camshaft sensor and encoder wheel.

Cheers for the reply. Ignition timing all over the shop is a good way to put it! How did you pinpoint it to the camshaft sensor? Did you try anything else before you figured it out?

Well, process of elimination really. I checked the usual suspects first, but eventually, the camshaft sensor kept popping up on the diagnostic tool. Given the symptoms, I bit the bullet and took it to a workshop. They confirmed it was a defective camshaft sensor and, like you suspected, the encoder wheel was kaput. Cost me 695€ all in.

Thanks for the confirmation. Looks like I'll be booking it into the workshop then. At least I know what I'm in for. Cheers for the help!

Sounds familiar. I've got a Scudo too, and I had similar issues a while back. Engine was playing up like a dodgy washing machine, lights flashing... you get the picture. Check your camshaft position. I'd hazard a guess it's a sensor failure. Is your ignition timing all over the place?
