Scudo Overheating Thermostat

My 2011 Fiat Scudo with a gasoline engine is overheating. Mileage is at 131107 km. The engine also takes a very long time to warm up. I suspect the thermostat cooling circuit motor is defective, probably the map thermostat itself. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2011 Fiat Scudo with a gasoline engine is experiencing overheating and slow warm-up, suspected to be due to a defective thermostat. The issue may be caused by the thermostat being stuck open, preventing the engine from reaching optimal temperature, or potential coolant leaks around the thermostat housing. The suggested solution is to inspect the thermostat housing for leaks and replace the faulty thermostat, which resolved the problem after replacement.

I had a similar issue with my Scudo. The symptoms you describe point towards the thermostat. Is your cooling fan running constantly, even from a cold start? This would indicate that the thermostat is stuck open, preventing the engine from reaching its optimal operating temperature. Also, check for any coolant leaks around the thermostat housing; this could indicate a failing seal.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed the fan running constantly, but I'll definitely check that tomorrow morning on a cold start. Where exactly is the thermostat housing located on the Scudo's engine? I want to inspect it for leaks.

On my Scudo, the thermostat housing is located where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine block. It's a black plastic housing, and you should be able to trace the hose back to it. Given that you suspect the thermostat and are seeing overheating, I would strongly advise against driving the vehicle and to take it to a workshop. Continuing to drive may cause even more damage.

Appreciate the advice. Confirmed the thermostat was faulty. Replaced it and the coolant. Cost me 350€, but now it's running as expected. Thanks again!
