Seat Alhambra AC Problems

I'm pulling my hair out here! My 2017 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine has a dead AC. The air conditioning no longer cools, the system doesn't even switch on, and there's a warning light glaring at me from the speedometer. The error memory points to the AC compressor, but could it be the air conditioning control unit defective? Anyone else experienced this automotive cooling nightmare?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Seat Alhambra owner experienced a non-functional air conditioning system, with a warning light and error memory indicating a potential AC compressor issue. However, the problem could also stem from a defective air conditioning control unit. After seeking advice, it was suggested to have a professional diagnosis to confirm the exact cause. Ultimately, the issue was identified as a faulty AC control unit, which was repaired, restoring the AC functionality.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Oh, that sounds rough! I had similar AC unit issues with my Seat Alhambra, though I can't remember the exact mileage back then. Was the warning light on the speedometer constantly lit, or did it flicker? Did you check the refrigerant pressure before assuming the AC compressor was dead?

The warning light was constant. I didn't check the refrigerant pressure myself, to be honest. I just saw the error code related to the AC compressor in the error memory. Could it really be something else?

A constant warning light and an error code pointing to the AC compressor, coupled with the system not switching on, does strongly suggest the AC compressor. However, a defective AC control unit can certainly mimic those symptoms. Given that you haven't checked the refrigerant pressure, and you are not expert in auto AC repair, I'd recommend taking it to a qualified workshop for a proper diagnosis. It's better to be sure before shelling out for a new AC compressor. They should be able to pinpoint whether it's the compressor itself, the control unit, or perhaps even a wiring issue.

You were spot on! Took it to a workshop and they confirmed the AC control unit was faulty. Cost me a hefty 980€ for the repair, but at least the AC is ice cold again. Thanks a million for the advice!
