Seat Alhambra Coolant Problem

My 2004 Seat Alhambra with a gasoline engine has a coolant problem. The check engine light is on and there's an error stored. Any ideas? Suspect a bad connection.

Low coolant on those can be tricky. I had a similar issue with my Alhambra – though mine's a bit newer. Check for any obvious leaks around the radiator hoses and coolant reservoir first. Also, have you checked the cooling fan is kicking in properly? Sometimes air pockets can cause issues too. The head gasket could be the culprit in worst case scenario.

Head gasket eh? Is that a common problem on these?

Well, not necessarily 'common', but it’s a possibility to keep in mind. Given the age, it's worth investigating. But start with the simple stuff first. If the light is already on and you suspect an electric issue, get the error codes read. It will pinpoint the exact sensor. If it keeps happening even after topping up and bleeding the system, its head gasket time. Probably best to get it checked out at a workshop to rule out the more serious causes.

Thanks for the tip. Turns out it was just a dodgy connection on the coolant sensor. 95€ fixed. Appreciate the help!
